The Singing Bowyer:
Ryano,
The temps were fairly cold last week(staying in the 30's and 40's), it got up into the 60's this past weekend, and is currently back down into the 30's. We may even get a little snow this evening, but I won't hold my breath...
Sounds like you fellers up north have been getting some real weather! The furs ought to be prime up your way... ;)
AND YES... public land is hit hard here like most everywhere else. I found a nice buck dead in the woods..well, his body was nice. Whoever shot him decided that only his head was worth keeping. He had been shot through the vitals, and I feel sure probably didn't go far. He hadn't been touched by the yotes or birds when I found him, but it was warm enough outside that I was afraid to chance keeping the meat. I just burnt a little sage, asked the Great Hunter to forgive the moron who did the deed, and took the sinew... I think the doe was a blessing offered in return.
Ryano:
Yes the furs are prime for sure but it don't matter much if the coons won't come out of there den's.....lol. I don't trap, yet.....I'm just a coon hunter. But I'm thinking about doing some beaver trapping, maybe..... ;) The season here starts after christmas some time. Tough to trap any land critters in 2 feet of snow. Congrats again on the deer. We see the same kind of things happen here all the time. Some one shot a nice buck in the neck with a small caliber gun probally with a spot light in the end of my brothers field during archery season, I walked back in the brush behind the field after a coon hound one night and found a blood trail in the snow and told my brother about it. He went back and looked and found one of the bucks he had on his trail camera several times over the summer laying there dead. I dont think who ever shot him even looked for him. Think they tried to shoot it in the head and missed and hit the neck, I'm guessing aways.....I'll really never know why people do stuff like that. This deer was only a 5 point but was pretty tall and wide. (18") Not even a legal deer here unless a kid shoots it.
