Rope foot vice?

The footvice I am using is a piece of buckskin that is knotted to make two loops. One small loop and one large loop.  I basically lock the stave in the small loop by twisting and getting it to the position I want.  The large loop goes over my foot or knee. Then you shave wood off pulling toward you.  I'll try to get some close pics up soon if you would like.  Jamie showed me how to use it much more effectively, but this is my half a$$ method.

 Oengus, I think a prussik knot would hold a bow in that fashion quite well. ( Google Prussik Knot) A vice would hold it even better! :D

You are right about the real vice.   ;D I'll have to check out that knot.
