Bow string measurements
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:33:25 am »
Went to Cabelas here in Maine and bought a dacron string which had "66" as the measurement on the pack label. (double loops). When I tried it on my bow I was surprised to find that it measured considerably less than 66 inchs, in fact about 58 inches. Then I realized that it was marked "AMO" measurement. I since learned that AMO is the abbreviation for Archery Manufacturers Organization. Question: how do they figure the labeling of string lengths? Does 66 inches mean the length of the string when the bow is braced?
BTW I have been making my own strings using 8 strands of 50# dacron ice fishing line and they seem to work fine for the lightweight bows I make.

Making your own will eliminate your problem with AMO strings. B-50 dacron is relatively cheap to buy.
