West Greenland Kayak Build Along!

<< < (6/7) > >>

D. Tiller:
Here are some more images from my Kayak building. Almost ready to skin it now!

1st image is of the deck upside down and the bow plate to the left to be installed.

2nd Image is of the deck beam lashing. Simplest knots you can imagine! Loop through once twist the end line around the loop 5 time and pull tight. Then loop through till you have three tight loops. Then put half hitches on to tighten everything down as shown in the picture. Pulls everything REAL tight!!!

3rd is one of the two stem plates being put on. These are Y-lashings same basic principle but the hanging line on the other side is left long enough to tighten Down the same way on the opposite side.

4th is of the Keelson being installed. Use the same knots to tighten the keelson to the stem plates. As you can see there is very little rocker in the Keelson. In case you dont know that the arc the keelson makes between the bow and the stern.

5th is Lucas, an apprentice at the Skin Boat School building an Alutian Island style Kayak. Lots more ribs in that guy to install!!! Cool eh?!?!

6th Keelson installed and first ribs going in!
