Jawge - yes I cut through the rawhide at the back of the nock

Tim - It was an Impala skin , came out nice and thin

Very nice bow. That rawhide back looks great. Where in Africa are you again?  Im guessing South Africa? I spent some years in Kenya a long time ago.

Sounds nice. My sister was in Swaziland which is closer to you but up in the mountains. The farthest south I went was Mombasa.

Yea that rawhide is sweet im thinking of trying a giant dog chew for rawhide...I like the way that looks, I appreciate the input.

Quick question about rawhide backing..

If that rawhide were to get rained on would it become soft, mushy and weak?

African Man, Ya us hanglider pilots like to stick them raptor talons and the like on our bows as well ;) I presume those where your gliders behind the bow at least. ;D Bow looks great! I hope you can get some food with it.

Smoke U - Pulled apart a dog chew but found it was very thick and not so good , rather get some decent raw hide , trade or something .

Canoe - If the rawhide got wet it would go soft , but I've used paraffin wax to seal it , which works well for me , put an extra coat on if the weather looks grim .
