Can anyone reccomend a good place to start

I agree this site is great but nothing better than getting your hands on some wood.  I'd say look around and find a gathering of some type where they will be building bows.  Get there and soak in as much as you can.  Remember, take the good with the bad.  You will sure break something.  Just learn from it and forge on.
