Question on yew stave

(1/2) > >>

Dave 55:
Im not looking to make a war bow but figured this might be a good place to ask this question.Ive got a yew stave 30 rings per inch or a little more,1/2 inch sapwood and am looking for around 70 # at 26 inches. My question is would it be advisable to thin the sapwood since the last several inches of the bow would be mostly all sapwood, appreciate any advice offered, thanks Dave.

adb:
I'd thin it a bit. I like the sapwood to be no more than 50/50 at the tips. You can either chase a ring, or not... hasn't seemed to have made much of a difference to me.

Dave 55:
Thanks for the reply, sure appreciate it,Dave.

DarkSoul:
Dave, there is no need to post the same question twice. If everyone would do that, the forum will become very polluted in a matter of days. :)

Please continue this discussion here.

I would certainly keep the sapwood on, since the back's gonna be a single ring (it'll be hard to ringchase this stave!), and I don't see any advantage in reducing it. Exept from astetical likings, ofcourse.

Nick
