I am new to primitive archery and brand new to this list. What size bamboo or wooden shaft do I need for a 25# bow?

you can probably get by with 5/16 shafts? thats what i used for my kids. as far as cane goes????? probably smaller.

Being new to primitive archery I would recommend 5/16" diameter arrows.  However, there was an interesting article in the April/May issue which talked about using 1/4" shafts with good results.

I'd go with 1/4" dowels from Lowe's, myself. Those 5/16"ers will spine in the mid-40's. As far as cane goes, you can adapt to the bow by leaving them longer. I assume you're shooting a primitive bow with no shelf?

Hillbilly:
The 5/16" polar dowels work well for a bow of that weight if you leave them a few inches longer than your draw length.
