it is on the belly of the bow and is about 9 to 10 inches long.

Bushbow:
Any bow I have seen break, break on the tension side (back) first, so the exploding bits generally fly away from you. Hickory is tough, It would not worry me.

If that's the belly side, it should be fine.

ok i got it finally scraped down and now am ready to add nocks i don't have horn so what would you shugest i do? if you need some pics just ask the dimentions are 6' long, 5/8 at nocks and 1 1/4" at handle.

I dont think you'll need them on Hickory? you could try some hard wood overlays if your worried about the string cutting into the wood.
