Rendering Bear Fat

(1/4) > >>

DanaM:
A buddy just stopped and gave me about 10 lbs of bear fat :) I've never rendered fat before so am looking for some advice on
how to do it.

Pat B:
Just like bacon. Put it in a pot and put that on heat and it will render. Be careful not to get it too hot or it will ignite. After rendering the fat strain it through thin cloth and store it in the frig.

zeNBowyer:
Bear   with  me,  but  what  are  you  planning  on  using the  bear fat  for?

Pat B:
Bear fat makes an excellent waterproofing for wood or leather. My yew hunting bow has only hand rubber bear fat as a finish. And it makes good biscuits! ;D

Hillbilly:
And it's the best thing you can use to dress leather boots.
