hickory stave

i have a hickory stave that is 65" ntn.  yesterday i roughed out my bow.  the stave has a bend in it after the handle. when i lay it flat on the side the riser in up about 2 ". do you think that i should try to staighten and if so should i use dry heat or steam?

With hickory, steam would be the best way to correct an unwanted bend. If your stave is seasoned you should cover the area to be steamed with shellac(not varnish). Shellac is not adversely effected by the heat or moisture in the steam and will seal the stave from more added moisture...but like Tim suggested, a pic would help us help you.
