It is Tulip Poplar bark.
The straps are old belts form the second hand store.  You can replace them if you would like.  They were all I could find.

Glad it made it in one piece.

NTD:
Okay David, Now make me one!!! That is an awesome looking quiver!

Keenan:
Nice quivers you guys made. ;)

stringstretcher:
I got a box in the mail today from 1/2 primitive.  THANK YOU.  Very nice gifts and I will get some pictures up later.

coyote088:
First, let me say, what an awesome collection of gifts.
You guys are all truly talented.

My gift was coming from Dane and we were beginning to think it may have been rejected at the border, however, when I arrived home yesterday, I found a postal card on my door and I knew it had to be it.  Unfortunately the parcel could not be picked up until today. :'(

Dane made me an Atlatl.  It is made of birch with red ocre lining the dart slot finished off with 10 coats of True Oil and a 5' dart made of Ash.
The pictures do not do it justice.

I was so excited to get it home and try it!

My first throw I managed to get it to go about 10 yards! Once we get rid of a bit of snow or I dig out my snowshoes I'll improve on that!

Thanks Dane for the awesome gift.
