His Well-Crafted Sinewed Short Maple Recurve Wins Honors for November Self Bow of the Month
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,16140.0.htmlHere is how he made this bow:
This is the first sinew backed bow I have done and I gotta say, wow! It's a snappy shooter and very fun little bow.
As for details, it's 48" ntn. Around 48# or so at 26" with a bit of bend through the handle. Maple was recurved, pretillered and heat treated prior to sinewing. 2 layers of sinew where layed down with knox. The handle is leather strips that were laminated and glued on after sinewing to the back and belly, and then shaped. No reflex was heat treated in, but the sinew did induce a small amount, probably a bit over 1". After shooting in, it was back to straight. Nocks are basically pin nocks. Thanks for looking!
Here's a sample of the remarks about this fine weapon:
-"it's cool, man, very cool." radius
-"A lot talent and skill went into the bow. 48" no less - very impressive. " OldBow
-"Looks great...I agree with Josh bet she slings an arrow pretty fast!" kylerprochaska
-"looks good, amazing what sinew can do on a short bow!" dragonman
-"Did a Nice Job Travis....tiller looks really nice...and I am a sucker for a Simple Sinewed Bow...and this is as simple as they get....Bendy Handle and all....I like it......" El Destructo
-"Great job. I really like the braced and full draw profiles." Okie1
-"What a neat little bow - I just love it!" Gordon

Del the cat:
Terrific bow.
I'm not bitter and twisted (much) or complaining (much ;) ) but is a sinew backed bow really 'self' ?
I'm just asking...honest O:) <mumble, mumble, exits monitor left yowling>
