Looking for a set of snake skins
« on: December 13, 2009, 08:19:06 am »
I'm looking to trade for a set of skins for a bow I'm working on for my son, would really like a set of diamondback skins but would consider something else.
I have whitetail backstrap sinew, rendered bear fat for use as a bow finish, leather dressing or even as a skin moisturizer(it really works), could also come up with some tonkin cane, buffalo horn for tip overlays, pieces of whitetail or elk antler for overlays or knife scales, cherry and/or maple burl for knife scales etc.

My PM function has been disabled by PA so you will have to e-mail me at mstqsewer@yahoo.com or give me a call at 906-450-5305, I will be home all day today :)

Dana.......I guess I will post it here.......The Skins are Green (Raw)....they have never been Scraped or Dried....They will come frozen( I am sure they will be thawed by the time you get them)...I will seal them in a Vacuum Seal Bag with Alcohol to preserve them....You will either have to scrape and dry them...or do like I do with all of my Skins....Scrape em and apply em with Hide Glue.....or I guess your glue of choice....I never dry my skins....I like em more supple ...this way you can lay em out nice and straight...plus as they dry with the Hide Glue....they add a little bit more tension to the Back too.......JMO

Any of the Titebond Glues will work too...do you want enough Hide Glue to try it? Or you can always use Knox gelatin

I have never hunted Rattlers or any other Snake for the Matter....in fact unless they are in my Workplace...where it is too noisy for their rattles to be heard....I have never killed one...but I take every one I can from People that do kill them and I pick up every roadkill I can that is still useable...and I have a Freezer of them right now....except for the 1...2...3...4... I have going to Dana........ >:D
