Congratulations to Pete Clayton of Whitehouse, Texas
His Slippery Elm Recurve is 2009 Self Bow of the Year
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,14604.0.htmlFrom Pete:Just finished this bow (in time for August BOM), and gave the tru-oil a week to cure, braced it today, shot a few through it ,and took some pictures.
Slippery Elm   ,65" tip to tip,63 1/2" nock to nock  ,  1 7/16" at fades,slightly tapering to 1 3/8" near mid-limb,then tapering to 3/8" tips,with osage overlays.
Scarlet Rit dye on tips, walnut stain on rest of bow.Western diamondback skins.dyed calfskin grip, heat treated. This is my first Elm recurve, and I really like this design with this wood.it is very smooth to draw and shoot, and has excellent speed. It's 60# @28",and came out of a 4" diameter tree.I've got 8 pictures so I'll put 4 on this one ,and post another.  God Bless
