Thanks Greg! How long should I let the snake skins dry before shooting the bow?

David, I skinned an osage bow a few years ago. A few days later I took it out to shoot and the 55# bow was pulling about 45# and felt like a noodle. I let it sit another 2 weeks and it was back to 55#.
If you are going to use TBIII glue to put the skins down, size the back first with it the day before you add the skins. That glue will cure without adding any moisture and will prevent any other moisture from getting into the wood when you skin it. It should be fine to shoot in a day or so.  ;)    Pat

PS: Should I stain the rawhide dark so the skins will show up better? If so how do I do that?

I never do that. I guess you use leather dye or Rit mixed with alcohol.     Pat

I've heard some people use magic markers to color the back before putting on the snakeskin. can I do the same with rawhide and put the skin over top of that?

David, Pappy and I have both used magic markers and they work fine.

If you put the glue on just prior to the skins, I would give the bow a couple of weeks before I started sealing it.

I'll try that then. Should come out nice. The Rawhide is almost dry and ready to go.

How is Lucy doing Pat. Hope she is looking better and feeling better.

Cool, purple heart overlays :). Greg, do you always file in your nocks before adding the overlays? Just curious - I've done all mine the opposite..

Looks like Greg took up my slack,I got back yesterday and had a great trip with good friends, even if they are yanks, ;) ;D I got up to Bob's  Wend.mid after noon so for once had some time to relax
and shoot a little at Bob's before we headed up to ElmHall for the shoot.I helped bob get some arrows shooting out of his Osage bow I gave him so he was a hard act to follow,he shoot
everything well and the selfbow was no different. Here are a few pictures of the trip and the shoot.
We lost a good friend Tuesday ,just before I got there so we took his Gradson with us,he always came with his Granddad,Little Bob we called him.Tony and I have always hit it off so he followed me around all weekend, almost like having Beau with me again,I loved it.I think we showed him a good time and got his mind off the lose for at least a while.  :) Life is good. The first was coming into MI. ,Bob's place and headed up to ELMhall. Also helping Bob with his bow, sweet bend if I don't say so myself. :) ;)
