stripping fletchings

(1/1)

recurve shooter:
i think thats what you call it when you just pull the feather off the quill instead of cutting the quill down. im sitting here with a pocket knife and a cutting board and this is getting old fast. i know that you can do it that way but i aint got many feathers to expiriment with so would anyone suggest doing this? its a heck of a lot faster and easyer but im worried about durrability. ???

Kegan:
I've done both, but personally I prefer splitting with a knife. You have more quill to work with. I use my KaBar, poud with the butt of the knife, split, then stick the point in the board and brace the butt of it with my chin and scrap the quill against the blade to get it nice and smooth. Doing enough for a dozen arrows takes a while, but I've always felt it was worth it.

recurve shooter:
ok cool well i guess ima keep cutting.  ;D
