Arrow shafts

I have cut wood on a saw to square, cut the corners off, then pulled it through a hole in a steel sheet (with sharp edges) using a drill. By gradually reducing the size of the hole a smooth shaft can be made. Not sure how it would work with a soft wood though.

These are my shaft making tools. The thumb plane costs less that $10 at ACE hardware. The board was free from my basement.  Place 3/8" square stock in the groove in the board. With the plane remove the 4 corners, then the 8 corners then the 16 corners. Now sand it smooth and make an arrow from it.
  The other tools are for making arrows from the shafts.
