turkey season is close!!
lowell:
Came home from work today around 11:00 am and thought I saw a turkey in the field south of me. I put on the ghillie suit, grabbed a call and a turkey tail to go play with them. Got to my old horse barn and could hear and just see the turkeys. They were fighting and doing that fighting purr thing.
I sat down and did a little calling and moving the tail around. I got their attention and eventually had 25 to 30 turkeys within 40 yards of me. Of them, I had 8-10 longbeards and 1 dozen hens within 10 yards. Had them fighting and purring when they were within the 40 yards.
Must have sat there with them for 45 minutes. Did different calling and moved the tail around in different ways to see there reactions. It was truely the most amazing experience I have every had with turkeys!!!!!!!
Camera was giving me some trouble and did not want to mess with it till they were starting to leave and then took a couple picture of them leaving at maybe 25 yards.
In case you can not tell.......I'M READY FOR TURKEY SEASON!!!!!....even was able to shoot my turkey bow the other day after resting shoulder for the last 4-5 months!!

thats cool dude,i love it when you can see and heere them fighting
if you plan on hunting that flock,i wouldnt play around with them
believe it or not they will get used to the sound of your calls, and your rythm
once they hear it and dont find that hen,and you keep playing them like that
they wont respond to the calling after they get used to not finding her.
they may have small brains, but they are far from stupid
i usually go to state land preseason to do that stuff
good practice, not to mention and adreniline rush when you get a bunch of toms/jakes 15-20 ft away gobbling non stop
FlintWalker:
It's illegal to call to a turkey from March 1 till the season opens ( April 17) here in Ky. I've done it before, but would rather wait till I can shoot 'em.
