How to use a Manga

I was looking through the third volume of the TBB, when it struck me. Has anyone tried using the Manga release described in the African archery chapter? I've read it a couple times but can't seem to quite grasp how it works.

I don't really think that I want a sharp metal object that close to my bowstring at full draw.
