Sinew Rapping
bushman:
When you are usin sinew to attack the fletching or arrowheads to an arrow and you only have short pieces how do you splice the ends of them together so that they all don’t unravel before they have dried? Do you just leave a tail end under the next rap when you start with a new piece? Also how do to you terminate the end of the sinew? Do you just feed it back under the last few raps then snug it all up tight?
Thanks
Bushman
Timo:
Yes and yes.
Pat B:
I chew the sinew strands before I make the wrap. Your saliva and the sinew make their own glue. I wrap it tightly, lick my fingers and squeeze the wrap in my fingers while rotation the shaft. With shorter pieces just add the second and third if necessary the same way. When it dries you won't be able to find the end and it is as good as adding hide glue and less messy. After the sinew dries I seal the wrap with pitch varnish.
