bamboo question

(1/1)

swimbill:
There is a large amount of bamboo growing near my house, I just dont know if it is the right kind to make arrows from.  I live in Rhode island, how can I tell if it is good for arrow?
thanks

sailordad:
welli aint no expert by any means
but ifn it were me i would cut it,dry and try it
that the only way to know for sure
just make sure your geting mature culms

aero86:
yeah, cut some and dry them out. and then make a few arrows.

markinengland:
If it grows and looks like arrow material about the right diameter, with smooth sides and nodes it probably is arrow bamboo.

ricktrojanowski:
If it's in R.I.  I'm going to guess is the Golden Bamboo.  Is it spreading everywhere?  And does it have many large protruding nodes?  If so it's not the ideal arrow material but it will work.  I'm on L.I. and that is the kind most people plant around here.  Once in a while I'll find a clumpof Japanese Arrow boo.  It has fewer smoother nodes.
