bamboo backed bulletwood
« on: April 09, 2007, 09:21:39 am »
the flooring stuff also called Brazilian Redwood, masaranduba, taxonomic reality = Manilkara bidenta in the Sapotaceae family.  I tried one from some trade wood with matt simpson  (huntersim) last summer and it delamed and broke.  I think i had a bad bottle of TB3 last year cause I had four bows go that way.  This one is from spliced 36" stock I got from Mechslasher (Chris Cade).  63", 60#/27". ipe handle and osage tip overlays.  Retained 1 .5 inch reflex.  Maybe the smoothest shooting bow Ive made.  THe wood really turns gorgeious with truoil

To me that looks like the perfect bow. Very easy on the eyes. sometimes I see bows that look like they are very complicated to make but they just don't look right. This one looks like a great bow, good weight nice tiller and a nice simple profile. well done.

Here are a back and tip detail shot. I'll snao a belly detail tonight,  I did the boo so that that core wood bulges out beyond it.  Nice effect.
