Using my finest furrier's needle I wondered what did the Natives use??

Nice work with the White Hearts. Crazy Crow has 11/0 and 13/0 seed beads and beading needles so fine it is hard to tell which end the eye is on. I think the NA folks used a small fine awl to poke a hole through the leather.
