and the worst in my case !! well this was a hickory with black walnut recurves glued on. it made it through about a dozen arrows before it suffered a minor fiber seperation. this is the second bow from the same board both got me on a swirl in the grain . usually wouldnt be a prob with hickory but it was the death of these . enjoy the destruction

Sorry that happened Ken.  I'd love to see a close up pic of those siyahs.  How'd it shoot for those 12 arrows?

couple more, this used to bother me , just sort of amusing now . on a brighter note i took a 24 inch diameter hickory log 16 foot long to the saw mill today lots of bows in the future ,staves and boards saving the slabs too

yeah soon as i get some better hickory, i will thin down the recurves on the next one to reduce weight, but overall it was a smooth shooter. the other board that broke with the same swirl was a 66 inch mollgeabet with split limbs like a compound half inch grove ran from fade to fade through the working limb. im gonna try that one again too

Sorry to hear about your loss. My sympathies go out to you in this time of sorrow.  :(

At least it is pretty kindling, if you suddenly have a need for that.  :)

Nice job Ken!  Too bad it blew!  Did you keep the siyah angle that shallow because of the grain in the walnut?  I find 45 degrees is a good angle, but then I laminate my siyahs from at least two pieces of wood with the grains running at angles to each other, for strength.

thanks pro, ken i cut them from a plain sawn peice about 2inches wide ,which would make them quarter sawn on the bow just limited by dimensions of the lumber.
