ken75:
here we go

HoBow:
That's right agd. Two theories (at least from what I've read) exist. X was used because of illiteracy among the common who was adopting Christianity or it was used as code to avoid persecution. Today, its used as a way of PC though- at least that's how I take it. The term doesn't offend me...

Pat B:
What's in a name, a rose by any other name still smells as sweet!  ;D

Wolfsongforge:
I always thought the X in relation to Christians came from the Chi-Rho. that was made of the first letters in Greek of Christ's name. Chi=Ch and Rho=R. it is shaped bu superimposing the 2 Greek letters over each other and it looks like a X with a P going through it. It was also the symbol of the first Christian roman emperor Constantine.  that could be why some call it Xmas. but i think most just call it that out of habit.
just my 2 cents, spend em how ya want.

God Bless
Kenneth

Cough, cough, um hey guys, remember the rules:

Rule #1

NO discussion of politics

Rule #2

NO discussion of religion

We've already got one thread on this board treading into political territory, let's please not get a religious thing started. No problem talking about Christmas, but getting into Christian theology? Only leads to disagreements.
