I see a issue with it penetrating up past the barbs. it seems to me that skin and flesh and bone with get pinched in the void between the prongs and stop the spear from going through the fish.
 Have u used them yet?

I have but was only successful with sunfish (legal here in MO).  They did not get much past the fork now that you mention it.  Good catch.
