plant dyes (cactus)

(1/1)

okiecountryboy:
Has anyone heard of this before?
I was at my inlaws house transplanting some cactus. I noticed a snow-white fuzzy type of fungus growing on one (prickly pear).
Asked abouut it, and was told that the local native americans used it as a dye. My father-in-law scraped some off into his hand (still white), rubbed his finger across it and it turned blood red. I plan on using this on my next leather project. If it's still there, I'll try and get some pics.

Thanks for reading
