rawhide string ??
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:24:44 pm »

found this while searching for something else.
It's described as #1 quality, 1/4" wide, 50' long.
I'm tempted to try it as a bowstring-
wet, twist and double...seems it would be plenty strong.
what do y'all think ??

Certainly worth a try, if your not paying an outrageous prices I would like to try it also.
Do a strength test on one twisted piece. Just keep adding weight (sand) until it breaks and then weigh the bucket. Yhat should tell you how many strips are needed.
I guess I have something new to search for or IM me with the details, Thanks.

i got mine in a little shop in Duluth minnesota
i think even one strand would be to think and heavy and make a bow sluggish
not to mention the size of nock the arrow would need
but thats just my opinion
you can give it a try,i dont mind eating crow when i have to  ;)

what you want for a rawhine string is fox squirrle rawhide
thinner and stronger

If the thickness is consistant it should work, Glenn. If it doesn't cost much give it a try. As it stretches it will reduce in size.
