Flinchlock priming horn
mullet:
David, the handles are hollow. I had to melt the silver solder out. Steve, I'm going back to the Flea market next weekend. If the other two knives are there you'll have one coming, too.
HickoryBill:
Very cool. I've been thinking of making one to go with my old Betsy, my 45 caliber Kentucky longrifle I built from a kit.
JW_Halverson:
Nice "re-purposing" of old scrap. As soon as I saw the pic with the spattergob of solder I figured out how it was done, cool! I have a pair of antelope horns that I have been waiting to turn into a matched pair of primers, maybe I need to get them finished.
mullet:
Antelope horns would be perfect.
JW_Halverson:
I've made two in the past. The secret to getting them to last is large bottles of the thinnest superglue available. Since they are not much more than compacted hair, they break down fast otherwise. And they are really porous....leads to wet powder problems.
