primitive fletching jig (new pic)
« on: March 10, 2011, 06:08:24 am »
i posted this a long time ago and was just browsing through here and saw all the fletching questions. very easy to use, with a wrap or with out. its just a piece of leather or rawhide that slides on the arrow and holds the feather by the quill. just cut a hole in it and 3 slices where the quills can fit into.

after its wrapped on the end ,slide it down and start your spiral wrap.

you can force the wrapping through the feather but its better to seperate the feather with a thin blade. they go back together much better, then just complete the wrap

Very cool, I'll have to give it a try.  It never feels to primitive fletching with a Bitzenberger. ;)

So could this one be patented with the name "Bitzen-booga" since it's definitely in the Ooga-booga realm?

I gotta make me a set of 12 of these!

Howdy Jamie,

Hey, I really like your fletching jig.  (And, I like the cost of one like that.)

Question;  When using a jig like that (leather with three slits cut in), when / how do you apply the glue?
Do you tie down the fletchings, front and back, and then apply the glue to the edges of the fletching?  I just don't see how you are getting them glued down??

Thanks for sharing,
