softer sinew

RidgeRunner:
Is it possible to make dry sinew softer?
Can it be "tanned or something" so that it is not so stiff and hard when dry?

I am making a War Club for my supervisor at work.  The plan is to put a wrist strap on the end of the handle.
Sinew is all I have to make the strap from.  Would like it if the strap was a good bit softer than one made normal sinew.

Thanks
David

JackCrafty:
Oil (like neatsfoot) will make it feel softer.  If you soak it in oil (then squeeze out the excess) it will not harden as much.

If I were you I would buy a small chamois at wally world, cut it into lace, braid it into cordage, and make the strap out of that.  There's nothing softer and it's all natural.

I would also like to make a warclub for my boss.  I am not sure he would notice how hard the handle wrap is when I "give" it to him ;)
