Snake Skins

(1/1)

Mechslasher:
i just purchased, by mistake, a pair of rattlesnake skins i believe have been tanned with glycerin.  i thought they were air dried.  what can i soak them in to make them stick to the back of a bow??

Pat B:
Chris, Try alcohol or acetone. That should remove the glycerin. You may have to repeat the soaking a few times to be sure all of the glycerin is gone.
I successfully skinned a bow with a hide that had been cured with antifreeze but it was 20 years after the tanning when I backed the bow. I guess the glycerin had dissipated by then.    Pat
