My first flute! (..added video)
Josh:
Well I used Michael C's Buildalong to try my hand at building a flute. I didn't have a router so I had to use some cabinet scrapers I found at Woodcraft. It worked pretty well I just wish I would have made the sound chamber walls a little bit straighter than I did that way I could feel safer making the flute walls a little thinner. I don't think I did too bad for my first flute. The totem/bird is supposed to be a song bird shape, I may add more detail later. It is osage and the flute itself is some of that cheap cedar they carry at Lowes. It is in the key of F, and for some strange reason the bottom two holes came out considerably smaller than the rest of them. It is in tune though and as soon as I get good enough I am going to post a song. The only thing about this flute I have noticed compared to listening to others play is mine sounds a little bit windier or breathier than others but I believe it is because I went a little too deep with the sounding board. It plays and is in tune which is far better than I expected it to go. I really wish I had another flute here to mess with so I can put a finish on this one, LOL. ;D ;D I can't seem to put this one down long enough. :) Thank you a ton Michael for posting the buildalong. I know mine is not as pretty as yours I am just glad I got a working flute. Maybe on my next one I will try and make it pretty. :) Well here it is, whaddaya think? thanks for looking!
mullet:
Ohh, that is nice. I have to try one of those.
Josh:
thanks, Eddie! :) I just put the finish on it last night and I am gonna play it a little bit for the next few days and then post a sound byte. ;) I can't wait to start on my next one.... Good luck on yours!
BearG:

Josh:
thanks Bear! ...if i get comfortable playing in front of people by then I will. I am still learning right now and this is the only flute I have ever played. :)
