Ash - Flatbow - Ciconia
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:51:43 am »
Hi guys!

This one was a little bit tricky to tiller, because of the reflex in the lower limb and the deflex upper limb.
The belly is only late wood and the limbs are 2 growth rings thick.
Length: 69"
45#@28"
Stringfollow: 1/2 inch
150fps with 10gpp

Oh man, that bow is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I split an Ash log yesterday and got some nice staves from it.  You've raised the bar and inspired me, both at the same time.

I like that a lot.  The wood looks like bone it is so white. :)
Happy hunting to all!

beautiful finish work Mathias, on the unbraced pic you can see how the stave is going in two different directions. very nice as usual. :)

I was wondering how thick is the leather handle, and what type of leather is it.
Very nice looking handle.

Originally saw this thread on my phone at the in-laws today - just got home and seen it on the "big screen" and man...  I can't stop looking at the pictures...  I'm in LOVE!!!

So many questions...

Did you leave the handle a little bulbous or is it two rings thick like the limbs and it's bulked up under the grip with something?  (I'm guessing it's bulbous)

Just what did you finish it with??  I love the firat picture where you can see the reflection of the grass...

The limbs...  Long, slow tapers or same width from face to midway, then tapered?  Tapered to what size?

Come to think of it - specific dimensions..?

Just beautiful...

Beautiful! Amazing! Awesome! I have to say that is one of the best bows I've seen.  I really like the simple, elegant look.  The finish is amazing.  I've been wanting to try ash.  I actually have some in my garage...I only hope I can make something half as good as this. I would also like to know what HatchA is asking....   GOOD JOB!

Very nice bow with a beautiful tiller. The finish work makes the wood look like ivory!  8)
