A white ash selfbow

(1/6) > >>

snedeker:
My first ash.  From stave, for 6'7" fellow with deep draw.  quarter-inch thick rings.  69" ntn, 62#/31".  1&7/8" wide from fades to mid limb then a stepped taper to 7/16" at nocks. Heat treated in 2" reflex, took on a bit of deflex after work in.  Walnut stain under tru oil, brown osage tip overlays.  I had to find a couple old really long aluminum arrows around to test it.  The rangy young lad to whom it will belong hasn't seen it yet - field archaeologist with our firm.  Sends a 540 grain arrow 210 yds.

If I was a white tail peering out from the woods at him working out with this this fall, i think there'd be a dark brown spot in my tawny little fur.
