Pat B:
Its called a ducks bill and it goes on the end of a push pole to propel a shallow draft boat. ;D ::)
A friend used to go deep into swampy area where the cypress trees grew so densely that he could find appropriate trees to make push poles. He would use copper nails and wire to attach the "Y" portion to the bottom out of the top, smaller diameter portion of the pole. I used the one he gave me all the time with my 13' Boston Whaler when casting for shrimp or flounder gigging. Pat

"DIng-ding-ding a weiner uh a winner !" yup its a "Ducks bill" goes on end of pole like Pat said sos ya can pole dugout. Seminoles dont use paddles but poles ta motor down swamp creeks by polin. This is a modern one but all wood ones can be made very easily with stone tools. Ifn ya ever try ta pole in a swamp ya find out real quick that ya kill ya self tryin ta keep pole from sinkin in creek swamp bottom. Youse guys an gals are good ! ;D Yer up jamie ! ;D....bob

Looks to be obsidian, with a flat spot for yer finger to rest on so its basically an extension of the pointer finger
the small diameter handle also makes it easy to control.
