sonny:
Shot with a maple flatbow (stave given to me by Marc).
First arrow- spine shot- was one that Art Butner sent to me in 2005.
Second arrow was a tonkin cane arrow with a coral point that Eddie (Mullet) gave
or traded to me some time ago, fletched with some of Stringstretcher's turkey feathers.
sonny:
I was hunting on a farm that a buddy and I have access to, nearly to the back of the property in a treeline between two fields.
I have seen plenty of deer from that stand before and have shot AT a couple but never had any success until yesterday.
7:30 am I was in the stand. Just about 8 I caught a glimpse of movement to my right and look down to see this guy standing there broadside at ten yards. His attention was away from me on some dogs barking down in the creek bottom so I managed to get turned around for the shot. I felt myself get nervous just for a second and then it was gone, along with an arrow. Hardly remember drawing the bow....and I see it strike him high, breaking his spine. He immediately fell over, breaking that arrow, then dragging himself out of view. I listened for motion of any kind but couldn't hear any- maybe he's dead I wondered to myself. Deciding that I needed to make sure I gathered my stuff and climbed down from the stand. Crossed the fence and find him thrashing but only forty yards away from where I had shot. Quickly grab another arrow from my quiver and shoot him again just behind the ribs, arrow angling forward into the liver and lungs......
