OK,OK,OK. The 1st pic is of all my tools. The 2nd is of the tools I used to make this point. The 3rd & 4th is the notcher. Its a steel nail beaten flat & sharpened. Trade secrets boys. All hand made ,that's it ! Or maybe I'm too cheap to buy Derlin.

The only other advice I can give. When I take a conical flake in The center of the platform take one small one on both corners of the notch. Do not clean the edge of the platform now. Doing it when it is upside down it tends to remove too much platform & makes it too strong. Instead flip it & lightly brush up with the tip of the notcher . This leaves more platform to get a bite on . Place the tip of the notcher in the cup ( don't know how else to describe it ) of the last flake & press down. You should be able to build a little pressure if you can't try a little higher up next time. Remember keep your notcher straight & don't twist!  That's how I do it , I would love to learn other ways. I hope to make it to Ozona tx this weekend!

Damn. I can't decide if I'm inspired or discouraged. That is a beautiful series of photos showing the stages of the process. Judging from some of the photos it looks like you knap while behind the wheel. I guess you can get away with that in parts of Texas with all the room and all.

IF you are up for it, what would be equally marvelous would be some photos of the tools being used. You'd need to enlist some photo help, but seeing the angle of the tool and such would be very informative for complete n00bs like me.

Very impressed.

Ya know Tower? This is the first time i've started at the start and have read completely through this thread. Your dang right this has helped a lot of people including me. I realize that i get in way too much of a hurry (hence all the half points in the yard, ha). Hope you can make it to this Cross Plains get together next weekend. Would love to sit and chip with you and all these guys. Oh, i'm going out to make one of those nail flakers right now :D..
