Alternative arrow sealers

I almost always use spray on clear coat, either poly urathane or spar varnish.  I'm a little low on funds right now, and was wondering if anyone had ever tried scotch guard or camp dry to seal their arrows.  I haven't used it yet, but am getting low on my usual and I've got a couple of cans of both items mentioned above and wondered if they'd work. 

Any comments?

Neither will seal wood. They will help prevent water from soaking in but not moisture.

A small bottle of Tru Oil or Tung Oil is about 6 bucks. That will dozens of shafts.

Thanks for the replys guys. That was quick.  Sounds like scotch guard may work as a weather guard for feathers then, huh?  Maybe after they have been fletched and the shaft has been sealed?  Anyway, thanks for the replys!!  dpgratz

Hand rubbed bacon grease. Primitive,free and smells good too.

Eddie has a good point and when he's not wearing a hat you can see it. 

But seriously, blood has been used on wood to seal it more than once, the fat in it works fairly well.

Bottom line...I think you got it Eddie!  Until I got on this site I just made em and shot em.  tweeked em if they wern't straight and ...shot em. 

??Eddie?? does it have to be deer blood?  How 'bout goat? Chicken??

Wayne, I do knap, but I'm sealing the points not the arrow shafts w/ that blood.  :o ;)
