Carp/Sinew Backed Juniper
« on: December 08, 2011, 12:18:09 am »
Here is my latest. She is a 58" NTN sinew/Carp skin backed Juniper bow. She is right at 60 lbs. @ my 25" draw and has goat horn tips. This was the top side of a large Juniper limb with two light coarses of sinew and then the Carp skins. Though I have done many different types of fish skins. This was the first with Carp. I am very impressed with it and love the pattern. The skin was fairly thick so I sanded it down on the belt sander to the feel of snake skin. I wanted the sinew for the benefits, and the skins for decoration without adding to much mass. There are 28 small pin knots in total With this one I am very pleased. ;D

What an amazing bow!  The carp skins look great on it.  Did you reflex the bow any while building it?  It looks straight as an arrow.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Thank you adb.
Thank you mspink
Thank you Hammertime.
Thank you Soy.
Clint Thank you, It was stove pipe straight to begin with so I left it alone thinking the sinew would pull into more reflex. It did pull about an inch but that was lost in tillering
Here are a few more pics

Wonderful bow! Design, tiller finish all top shelf. Tipi as background for full draw is a great touch. I believe I could pick out a bow you made from a pile - maybe even with my eyes closed. Thanks for sharing.

Keenan, I sure hope you're keeping that one for yourself! I know I'd have a hard time parting with it.

Oh ya, I vaguely remember you promising us a how-to on that wrap you do that looks so slick ;)  Your finishing details are perfect, as usual.

Outstanding craftmanship Keenan. Skins, tips, finish work and tiller all gorgeous.

Keenan that is one sharp looking bow. The horn nicks, finish, skins, handle and tiller are all top notch.. Now I understand why Patrick likes juniper so much.
