First atlatl, first bolts and first practice with son

Hey guys. Looked up the atlatl site that you guys have posted around here and made A 22" atlatl, two 72" bolts. One is 7.5 oz and the other ended up at 6 oz. Spined them out to about 8 lbs. This was a good break from making bows and a lot of fun. The bolts are fir and cut from a 1 X 2. About 5/8" at the big end tapered to 3/8" at the small end. Goose and turkey fletching. Copper tube for the practice tips.  The atlatl is made of maple with an antler point. Here are some pics. Also wanted to add that This is my first time ever using the atlatl and I was getting the darts to around 60 yards. Was wondering if that is average, crappy or whatever else. Thanks for looking.

more with a couple good shots at ten yards

that's very cool, good way to spend time with your son, i'm getting ready to build my first as well, hope i can do as well as you did, Bub

Cool! Atlatls sure are fun. You might find you get better dart flight if you shorten your spur a tad.... Just a thought. Great first.
