dagame as backing wood ???
Far East Archer:
Is the wood a bright red color? I believe what you have is jatoba, also known as Brazilian cherry. I know Thimo has used it a lot and others on here too. Its very hard and heavy but if I remember correctly the wood wasn't that good in tension but then again I have seen them made unbacked. It should work just like ipe and so if your board has straight grain you can make a selfbow from it.

yesss, you're right alex! - it is jatoba not dagame what i have here...i get confused with the names of these woods and i'm not too familiar with them, yet. but this answers my question; if it's not good in tension i won't use it as a backing wood, thanks!
