Also guys i had just cut another oak tree to the right length and im going to wait to split that one but my other stave is drying at the moment, i will be getting a draw knife and a wood rasp soon is it okay if i rough it out into a general bow shape then let it dry while its weighted down to prevent warping?

When it comes to removing wood, a spoke shave is a nice step in between the draw knife and the rasp

Jawge's site helped me get started a little over a year ago.  He gives good clear advice and won't steer you wrong.  This site is filled with priceless tips for bow building from some true artisans.  I am up to my 7th or 8th bow so far....  brace yourself - it can consume your every spare minute if you let it!  welcome aboard.
