sadiejane:
ok first let me say i am not a woodcarver.
have tried my hand a few times, made a few spoons etc.
but it is not a skill i have mastered by any means...
i know there are some wood  carvers on here
and i would enjoy seeing pix of yr work.
hated to take over mcginnis6010's thread showing his erc work, so thought id start another thread-
hope ya'll dont mind and certainly hope yall will post some examples of wood carving.
and hand tools used too!
thanks

here is my last attempt at making a spoon and a spatula for a holiday gift
wood is walnut

here are some spoon carving knives ive picked up. top two i often use for bow scraping too
bottom-mora curved knife. middle is a custom knife a friend made for me and i handled with osage
top is a very old alaskan made knife picked up on an excursion yrs ago

sadiejane:
another tool i use lots for spoons are palm gouges.
after making numerous spoons by cutting the shape out first then digging out the bowl.
i started carving the bowl first, often by clamping down the bit of wood and using palm gouges.
then working on the rest of it.
heres one i recently started.
koa wood from hawaii my sister from honolulu sent me
this will be her bday present one of these years....

iowabow:
very cool post.

Jimbob:
Those look pretty good.

mcginnis6010:
Those look great Sadie! You definitely do have wood carving skill. Your skills will only get better the more you carve. I use a Murphy carving knife and usually a scorp for the bowl but I have to get a new one. I also use small pocket knives and palm gouges as well.ill get some pic of some stuff I've done in a bit .
