oak bow from tree?

(1/2) > >>

richpierce:
I see folks make board bows from oak.  Can oak bows be made from a tree, using the outer ring as the back, or does that not work with oak?  There are a lot of large oaks that get cut down around here and are available for "firewood'.

Sure it will ,go for it.

Of course! They'll probably work even better than a board will.

...just be sure the tree hasn't been laying on the ground. During the summer it doesn't take fungi long to invade a log that is laying on the ground. :o     Pat

If theres a choice, look for white oak.  Flat, scaly light gray bark
