If you have a stave that you suspect has grubs in it just place it on a fire ant bed and tomorrow you won't have grubs any more. When the grubs are gone the fire ants go back home.  ;)

That is good to know thanks ;)

Fire ants do a decent job removing flesh from a skull for a European style mount as well.  If I didn't hate them so much I'd say they were occasionally handly.  But, I hate them too much.

White woods really exceptable to boders. In ash they go deep. White woods not like osage that has lots of oils and raisins to stop interal rot.. Give it a try but likely if it's been out side. Those weather checks go really deep and so do boarers if you have them I your area.. I tryed ASH and BL POSTS. I split and tryed 6 or 7 post back in 88 never could find any that was solid enough to make a bow.
I did find some ash posts in a barn that had never been in the weather these were 45 years old. The wood boarers were there but I still made bows from them. I've found that it's better to fill the holes with saw dust a supper glue. And if it white wood back it. But Ive make HICKORY and just left them alone.

No extra charge for the piss ants Soy!  I got ten more of those Osage posts ready for splitting when I get the time.  Hopefully, they will have as good of wood as the ant nest did!  Josh
