Please help me Identify my Dad's Bow...

I emailed Flitter the other day these are the images he sent me.

I for one don't have much of an idea, it's not a warbow but certainly looks old. The black covering is not something I have ever seen in a bow like this before. Any ideas.....

im guessing maybe an old target style longbow, and im guessing the black covering might be a tar or resin of some kind to water proof it? just my guess, what we need is someone to analyse it in person

a lot of old timers in 1800 and early 1900s would use beeswax on wood....I bought a mantle clock from pre-WWII in europe that was nearly black.  Stripped it all off and it had beautiful highly figured black walnut case under all that.  told by clock repair guy it was beeswax that built up over the years mixed with dust, dirt, and smoke from fireplaces and stoves.
