Point of The Month - Sticky
iowabow:
Here's a little update showing the progress and continuing problems. First picture shows the bottom 2 thirds punch notched and blended and finish work with retouch pressure flaking. The second picture shows how the median ridge is off to the left side. The upper third still needs shaping and blending

Well I guess I have been lurking around long enough without trying to make one my self so here it is. Lol. This is my first attempt at a Clovis. I did some reading and looked at a lot of pics. I like the concept of point of the month, kinda forced me to attempt a point that I otherwise probably never would have.

I should have quit while I was ahead. I broke a really nice preform last night trying to flute it. :o Looks like I'll be practicing on these more. I'm in agreement with chertle, maybe next we can try something easier like reproducing the sweet water blade. Lol

Nice John and Aaron, great points.
I tried 2 tonight. The first, of keokuk, was too thin a preform and I broke it in 3 pieces. The second I did not intend to flute, it is from an obsidian nodule I got from Bevan. It came out a little thick so I decided to give it a try. The first flute came out great.
But the second was a dismal failure. Not sure if I didn't hit it hard enough or if the little pocket of impurities caused it to stop. Too bad, it is pretty stone.
