Slab Point

I've had several failures in a row, in sort of a slump.  Tonight I picked up a triangular slab of georgetown that Don sent home with me from Cross Plains.  It was thick enough to practice with the bopper so I got it thin and then ishi'd a point out of it.  Since it was a pretty short slab I should have left it a little thicker to keep the weight up.  Ended up very thin and only 95 grains.



I took Paul's advice and side notched it.  Still stalled one side so I got out the punch and kept it going.  Love that punch.  The punch flakes are very consistent.

That one turned out great George! May not be the grains your looking for but them things are great teachers. I call em making ammo or you know, cookie cutter points cause their so simple. Make ya a couple dozen of those then just sit and stare at em for awhile - kinda hoakie huh?  ;D..

Nice one G.  A brass casing or copper wire would add a little more weight to it.  Looks like a hafter to me.  ;) dpg

Thanks all.  I really had trouble running flakes with the ishi and I don't know why.  I didn't think I was doing anything out of the ordinary.  In the end they started going better, at least good enough for the point to look OK. 

Unless I can get the grandkids to watch, or go out after they go to bed, I won't get much knapping done for awhile.  They're asking about bows to shoot so I'm pretty sure to get sidetracked building a couple osage quickies.  Also, today is our 37th wedding anniversary.  Where did that time go??

An osage quickie ???  Nothing I do seems to be quick!  It seems to take me forever to beat a rock down to a point that is nothing as nice as yours ;)  Just celebrated our 13th last week!!  Sure isn't anything to write home about hearing how long ya'll have been together congrats to everyone on their anniversaries :-*
